Lieutenant Jean-Pierre LaSalle
Chief Science Officer
Character Name: Jean-Pierre LaSalle
Race: Human
Gender: Male
Character Appearance:
Height: 6.5 feet (2 meters)
Weight: 180 pounds (around 80kg)
Hair: Brown (no beard)
Eyes: dark brown
Other physical features: LaSalle is a very tall and slim person. Although he doesn't look very athletic, one may not underestimate his strength. He is very well trained and good at sports.
Birthplace: Tadoussac, Canada
Character's birth year: 2358
Lanuages Spoken: French, English, Vulcan, Romulan
Family:
Ferdinand and Yvonne LaSalle. His father isa doctor, caring for his patients in a small medical practise in the middle of nowhere. His mother is a biologist, examining the biodiversity of the large Candian forests
Siblings: None. Some nices and nephews from his mother's family are working in the Diplomatic Corps.
Background:
Jean-Pierre passed his childhood in the French part of Canada on Earth. His father disliked the technical progress of the last centuries. Ferdinand wanted his son to grow up in the nature. Jean-Pierre attended a small school near Tadoussac near the Lorenz River. On long and hard tours through the rough nature of Canada, he learned how to survive in the wilderness without technical help. If his mother Yvonne hadn?t taught him many things about the sciences and the world outside Canada, he would have probably stayed on Earth like his father. But his mother showed the miracles of the Universe. Together, they travelled very often to the Moon Colony. The view of the Earth from the Moon made a deep impression on Jean-Pierre. Furthermore, his mother told him the stories of the nature on many planets, and since this time, he wanted to see those strange worlds.
Since his early childhood, Jean-Pierre was a very curious person. He wanted to understand the basic laws that hold together the universe. So before entering Starfleet Academy, he studied Astrophysics in New York. During this time, he also listened to a few courses on Extraterrestical biology and gained some basic knowledge of this subject.
Service Record:
After he had finished his studies, he joined Starfleet Academy. Like during his studies in New York, he did not like the crowded places. He came back to Canada as often as possible. During his Academy time, he served for several months on a Cadet Vessel, the USS Brighton. This had been a tough time for him. Apart from a few major test simulations, the work had not been very challenging. Furthermore, the main purpose of the Brighton was to educate the Cadets and there weren?t many opportunities for him to do some research work. As a Cadet, he did not have much holodeck time, but these few hours had been very important for him. This way, he could return to a holographic wilderness.
Despite all this, he never gave up his dream to explore the space on a Starship. As he had already studied natural sciences, he wanted to become a Science Officer. But he also acquired some basic knowledge in warp physics and gained a few engineering skills. Due to his curiosity, he studied the ships schematics very intensively and is therefore capable of doing some minor repairs. Unfortunately, although he has a good theoretical knowledge, he?s not good at doing handwork. He got to know that it's very difficult to put some good theoretical ideas into practice. At the age of 26, he completed the Academy.
Personality: At the Academy, he missed most his freedom to walk around in the nature. Jean-Pierre is a very calm man. When he explains his solution of a problem, he tends to ignore the fact, that other?s have not studied the same problem for such a long time and might not be able to follow his explanations. If Jean-Pierre gets nervous in a critical situation, he tends to be very sarcastic. He is a person with very few prejudices and it is very difficult to offend him.
Likes: long journeys in the nature, complicated problems, classical music, classical literature, playing chess, cooking
Dislikes: replicated food, prejudices; people, who talk without thinking about what they are saying
Weaknesses:
Jean-Pierre is definitely not a strict-to-the-orders type. He only trusts in his own work and therefore hesitates to follow orders, which he doesn't understand. That?s why he had some problems at the Academy. The senior officers usually didn't explain their orders.
Jean-Pierre had never been good at combat training. His phaser training results were a disaster, and he wasn?t very good at hand-to-hand combat, either. The only reason that he managed to pass the tests was his very good strategic thinking. In some holodeck simulations, he could foresee were the holographic enemies would hide and where could be a potential ambush.
Jean-Pierre is not a man for the daily work. If his job isn't difficult enough, he gets bored very quickly.
Interests:
Jean-Pierre has two main interests. The first is the nature. He hates being caught in small rooms and this had been a problem for him during the time at the Academy.
He likes simple sports and using his own feet instead of turbolifts. He often uses the ladders just for training.
His other interest is astrophysics. He likes all kinds of scientist problems, the more puzzled they are; the more can he forget anything else. Very often, he's totally lost up in his thoughts and concentrates on one single problem.
He's a pretty good chess player, although he never won a game against one of his Vulcan CO?s at the Academy. But at the Academy, there were very few Cadets who could win a game against him. They preferred to play poker with him, because Jean-Pierre was not good at bluffing. He tried to calculate the likelihoods during a poker game, and he never saw, that these didn?t help him winning.
He uses his free time to read the latest astrophysical articles or to go on long trekking tours, if this is possible. He is also interested in classical literature.
