Character History:
The only son of a diplomat, he was born in 2342 on Cardassia Prime, though he lived on Bajor from age one until six. (He has one sister, Akitana) His father, Tinall, was assigned as an envoy to Sol, where he defected, along with his wife and two children, to the Federation at the onset of hostilities. During the following years, his father worked on Antica, Andor and Bajor (until Bajor left the Federation). When not working on his academic studies, was highly involved in projects to fix schools and infrastructure on Bajor. Here is where he perfected his Bajoran speech. Has an allotment of 50% of his pay to multiple orphanages on Bajor.
Most of his early life was spent in the Kendra Valley on Bajor. It was there that he began training to be a Dul Riktat monk. While there, the Cardassian Central Command learned of his father's true loyalties, which forced his family to flee into exile, never to return (under pain of death).
From Bajor, they relocated to Antica, where his father served as a Federation ambassador. His father, Tinall, never abandoned hope for Bajor and secretly worked to support the Bajoran Resistance from abroad. His exploits in this covert role led to him being the single Cardassian Hero of the Occupation, a meaningful title in that it enabls his family to visit Bajor with few, if any, restrictions.
While on Antica, Tallik completed his training. Only two months later, the young monk entered the Academy, which began his service with Starfleet.
Consistently plagued by prejudice, he had to work very hard to fit in and to get his comrades "past" the fact that he is a Cardassian. Even today, he experiences great difficulties from his ancestry, or, rather, people's response to that ancestry.
Tallik's life took a huge change for the better during his assignment to USS Sentinel. Sent for a second Chief Engineer billet, he had begun to lose hope of ever becoming more than a Department Head. Advancement became far less important to him there, as he met the love of his life, a Bajoran woman named Jeteo Valjani.
His tour on Sentinel was cut short when the ship was heavily damaged in a botched hijacking attempt. He was re-rolled to Illustrious for a "quick fill" of the vacant CEO position and, when he was no longer needed in that slot, was offered an executive officer position on USS Aberdeen and soon moved from there to the Nebula-class cruiser, USS Hiroshima.
After two years' service on USS Hiroshima, Tallik was promoted to the rank of commander and given command of the ship. During his first 6 months in command, he was again promoted to the rank of Captain.
